Referral sharing lets entrants earn bonus entries when they invite friends to enter your contest. It is designed for viral giveaways and ambassador-style campaigns.
Referral sharing is available as a Pro bonus action.
How Referrals Work
When a contest includes a referral action, entrants receive a unique referral link after entering. If another person enters through that link, the original entrant receives bonus entries based on your action settings.
Referral entries count toward the entrant's total entry count. If the contest uses random winner selection, entrants with more total entries have proportionally better odds.
Adding a Referral Action
- Open the contest.
- Go to the Actions tab.
- Click Add bonus action.
- Select Referral Share.
- Set the share message.
- Choose entries per referral.
- Set a maximum referral entries limit.
- Save the action.
Referral Settings
Message The default message entrants can use when sharing the contest.
Entries per referral The number of bonus entries awarded to the original entrant each time a referred friend enters.
Maximum referral entries The maximum number of referral-based entries one entrant can earn. This protects your contest from being dominated by one highly active referrer.
Tips for Referral Campaigns
- Use a prize with broad appeal so entrants feel comfortable sharing.
- Keep the referral reward simple, such as 1 or 2 entries per referred friend.
- Mention referrals in your contest description so entrants understand the benefit.
- Use UTM parameters on your own promotion links separately from referral links, so you can distinguish paid, email, social, and entrant-driven traffic.
Troubleshooting
If referral entries are not being awarded:
- Confirm the contest has an active Referral Share action.
- Confirm the friend entered through the referral link, not a copied standalone contest URL.
- Check whether the original entrant has reached the maximum referral entries limit.
- Make sure the referred entry used a different email address.
