The Contest Popup displays an active contest over the storefront. Its appearance comes from the contest Design stage, while triggering and targeting are configured in Shopify's theme editor.
Enable the popup
- Open the contest editor and go to Launch.
- Select Popup and click the action to open Shopify's theme editor.
- Open App embeds.
- Enable Contest Popup.
- Select the contest.
- Configure the trigger, frequency, targeting, and popup-specific layout.
- Click Save in the theme editor.
Only active contests are shown to customers.
Trigger options
- Time delay — show after the configured number of seconds.
- Scroll percentage — show after the visitor reaches part of the page.
- Exit intent — show when a desktop visitor appears ready to leave.
Frequency
Choose once per visitor, once per session, once per day, or always. Remember when dismissed can prevent the popup from appearing again after a visitor closes it.
For testing, use a private/incognito window or temporarily choose Always. Local browser storage can otherwise make a working popup appear to be missing.
Targeting and layout
Show the popup across the store or restrict it to selected page types. Choose a centered modal or bottom-right slide-in and adjust its width, border radius, overlay, title, and description options. Show header image is enabled by default and displays the image from the contest's Design tab at the top of the popup; turn it off when you want a text-first popup.
Colors, prizes, dates, terms, button copy, and success content are controlled by the contest. Preview the Popup surface under Design before publishing theme changes.
The popup is optional. You can activate a contest and use the standalone page or app block without enabling it.
